She’s a Learner
Amelia holds a PhD in Adult Education and Community Development from the University of Toronto, a Masters in Organization Leadership from Eastern College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Double Major: Anthropology) from York University. Her PhD focused on the relationship between learning and work in non-profits in Northern Canada. Her dissertation was entitled “Perpetuating Precarity in Theory and in Practice: A Case Study of Work-integrated Learning in the Non-profit Sector in Northern Canada.”
She’s a Leader
Amelia has more than 20 years of experience in organizational development including strategy, change management and project planning, in both stable and in highly volatile contexts. Prior to starting Aunty Power Inc., Amelia was:
- Operations Director and interim National Director for World Vision in Indonesia (900 staff)
- National Director for World Vision in Laos (400 staff)
- Director, Career and Experiential Learning at the University of Toronto
- Research Lead, Community Futures Fraser Fort George
- Dean, School of Access and Continuing Education, College of New Caledonia
She’s worked around the world
Amelia has worked in more than 20 countries. She was on the front lines of the 2004 Tsunami in Aceh, Indonesia co-designing recovery programs together with communities. She’s worked with complex and powerful bodies like the United Nations and National Ministries of Health, Education and Poverty Reduction. She has also worked at the grassroots level in remote and rural villages, shanti towns and Canadian tent cities.
Amelia is a settler on Turtle Island. She currently resides on the unceded and un-surrendered territory of the Lheidli T’enneh (Prince George, BC) with her partner Res Krebs (of Resonant Strategic). She loves the crisp snow and the abundant skies of the North. Amelia also calls Toronto and Alor, Indonesia home.
